The book tells how the magic might disappear if the Elf is touched. We decided early on that the parents were the only ones who could touch the Elf. We just enjoy the book as a fun story and it helped us discuss as a family what our Elf would be like for our family. If not, just enjoy Elf antics in your home without the “reporting” to Santa. If this is a story that you want to embrace, buy the book. It’s almost if the family is playing a game of non-stop hide-and-seek with their Elf. Before the family wakes up each morning, the Elf flies back from the North Pole and hides in a new spot. When the kids go to bed, they fly back and report to Santa every night.
